Medicated ghee gently pooled around the eyes to relieve strain, dryness, and fatigue caused by hours of screen time and pollution — a classical Ayurvedic therapy for the eyes. Available at 6 clinics across Delhi NCR & Gurugram.
Between screens, pollution, and late nights, our eyes rarely get a break. Netra Tapan (also known as Netra Tarpana) is Ayurveda's answer — medicated ghee is pooled gently around the eyes, allowing the eyes to rest, nourish, and recover in a way no eye drop or short break can achieve.
Netra Tapan ("netra" = eye, "tarpana" = nourishment) is a therapy where a ring is built around each eye socket and lukewarm medicated ghee is poured in and retained for a set duration while the patient gently opens and closes their eyes. It's used to relieve dryness, strain, and fatigue, and to support overall eye health.
At Ayurnava, Netra Tapan is offered after assessing your eye concern and general eye health, since certain conditions need care and clearance before this therapy is appropriate — your practitioner will confirm what's right for you.
Your practitioner examines your eyes and eligibility for the therapy before proceeding.
A dough ring is built around each eye socket and sealed to hold the ghee without leaking; a gentle warm fomentation may precede this.
Lukewarm medicated ghee is poured into the ring and retained while you gently blink, for a duration your practitioner determines based on your condition.
The ghee is drained and the eyes are cleaned gently; you're guided to rest your eyes afterward.
Netra Tapan is a wellness and supportive-care therapy, complementary to — not a replacement for — medical treatment of diagnosed conditions.
Always consult an Ayurnava practitioner first if you have a diagnosed medical condition, to confirm Netra Tapan is appropriate and identify any modifications needed.
May need to be avoided or modified for: active eye infection or inflammation, recent eye surgery without medical clearance, extreme physical or mental exhaustion, and any acute eye condition your practitioner flags as needing medical attention first. Our practitioners review your health history before your first session.
It's used to relieve eye strain, dryness, and fatigue — particularly helpful for people with heavy screen exposure — and as a general nourishing therapy for eye health.
The ghee is retained in a sealed ring built around each eye socket, not dropped directly onto the eye surface — you gently open and close your eyes within that pool of warm ghee.
The oil-retention duration itself is often just a few minutes per classical guidance, but including preparation and aftercare, a visit typically takes 30–45 minutes.
It's not recommended during active eye infection or inflammation, right after eye surgery without clearance, or during extreme physical or mental exhaustion — your practitioner will confirm eligibility first.
A short course of about 7 days is commonly suggested for noticeable relief from strain and dryness, though this varies by individual concern.
It's used as a supportive nourishing therapy for general eye health and comfort — it isn't a treatment for correcting refractive vision problems, and any vision concern should also be evaluated by an eye specialist.
Netra Tapan, also called Netra Tarpana or Akshi Tarpana, falls under Ayurveda's Kriyakalpa — a set of classical eye-care procedures described specifically for nourishing and treating the eyes.
Ghee is chosen as the primary medium because Ayurveda considers it deeply nourishing and well-suited to the delicate tissue around the eyes, in contrast to therapies elsewhere on the body that use oil.
Classical texts describe varying retention durations depending on the specific eye concern being addressed, measured in traditional units — a nuance Ayurnava's trained therapists are taught to apply correctly.
